Jefferson Township
Jefferson Township is located in the northwest corner of Morris County, New Jersey. This countryside town is just minutes off of RT. 80 and located less than an hour from New York City.
Jefferson Township is a spacious 42 square miles, divided into two sections: Oak Ridge, which includes the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, and Lake Hopatcong, not only a community, but also effectively New Jersey’s largest fresh water lake. Jefferson has many other lake communities; Lake Shawnee, White Rock Lake, Lake Winona, Cozy Lake, Longwood Lake, Lake Forest, and Lake Swannanoa. All of these communities enjoy the resources with activities ranging from fishing and swimming to water skiing and boat racing. The Rockaway River’s source starts deep within Berkshire Valley giving local anglers a trout fishing experience to come back for again and again.
A unique neighborhood nestled in the middle of Oak Ridge, is Preston Lake Estates. This small community consists of only 27 homes that are all striking and original in character, yet meld perfectly as a neighborhood enclave.
The spring fed lake is stocked with trout and bass and has a catch-n-release policy. Seventeen feet at its deepest, the water is pristine, and the shore offers residents a lovely sandy beach on which to relax. Winters offer another opportunity to enjoy this neat perk, with ice skating or ice fishing available. Imagine skating on the pond and then enjoying a hot cup of cocoa by your fireplace hearth! A lifestyle beautifully captured in Norman Rockwell paintings and in Preston Lake Estates!

Jefferson Township is a place where one can be as social or as private as they please. There is no end of activity going on for those who seek an outgoing lifestyle.
Known as the “Year Round Recreational Capital” Jefferson always has an outdoor activity going on. Visit Camp Jefferson for a picnic on the fields, and a good old fashion square dance at night. Weekends at both Ridge Road Field and Lakeside Field are the playgrounds for the Milton Recreation Association and the Jefferson Sports League.
On December 5, 2008, the Jefferson Falcons High School Football team ended a two year NJSIAA dry spell and proudly brought home a 2008 Sectional Finals Title to Jefferson Township. Attend a high school sporting event and watch the 2008 Champion Falcons battle against teams from the SCIL.
